We hosted a Roaring 1920’s Gatsby Ball, in aid of The Prince’s Trust, a charitable organisation set up to help fund young people aged 13 to 30 to secure jobs, get into education and receive training. Kimberley Jackson and Kirsty Taylor from our Military team were delighted to be there. Here are their thoughts on the evening’s entertainment.
A Roaring Success
The event was hosted at The Imperial War Museum which was an amazing backdrop to the Ball. The building’s architecture added to the feel of the exhibits and we were surprised to learn that it was actually an old bomb site from the Second World War. We heard about the work of the Trust from Abi, an inspirational young girl, who told us about all the opportunities it had given her.
Our Manchester Military team hosted the ‘Henry Ford’ table. Being seated in-between Colonel Brian Gorski, the Chairman of the Bury Fusilier Museum and Mike Downes, Regional Northwest Manager for Blesma was an absolute pleasure. Brian had plenty to tell us about the history and exhibits on display and we are both now looking forward to giving the Bury Fusilier Museum a visit. Mike, being ex-military himself, told us about the fantastic work that he does with Blesma, the limbless veterans charity.
We were also delighted to be joined by Colonel Mark Underhill OBE, Chief Executive of NW Reserve Forces & Cadets Association, Lesley Graves, Managing Director of Citadel and Melanie Onn, MP for Great Grimsby.
Melanie has liaised with Amanda Marsh, our AFCS specialist, on all aspects of the system of compensation and campaigns for improvement to benefit serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces.
It all looked spectacular and together with everyone’s generosity, made for an event we will not forget.
