The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers formed on 23 April 1968, as one of the new large infantry regiments. They were born from the English Fusilier regiments; The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, The Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers, The Royal Fusiliers and The Lancashire Fusiliers.
2018 is an exciting year for the Regiment as it celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special programme of events taking place across the country. Fusilier 50 will feature memorial services, dinners and special concerts.
The Regiment recruits nationally but still retains strong ties with traditional counties of Northumberland, Warwickshire, Greater London and Lancashire. The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers inherits a tremendous history and set of traditions from its four former regiments, with 55 Victoria Crosses awarded for valour.
The Fusiliers are renowned for being tough partners in combat and are recognised by the distinct red over white hackle which is worn by everybody associated with the regiment.
Since its formation, the Fusiliers have seen service across the world and found themselves at the sharp end in regions as diverse as Northern Ireland and Cyprus in the mist of the conflict. More recently, the Regiment served in the Kosovo and the Balkans, took part in the first and second Gulf Wars and has served in Afghanistan. Today, Fusiliers both Regular and Reserve, are ready for deployment anytime, anywhere.
