My name’s Polly Morgan and I’m a trainee solicitor in the personal injury team.
We do really high quality work here, and the clients inspire me every single day. They’re incredible people who’ve been through really difficult times in their lives, and we’re there to hold their hand and guide them through the process. As a trainee solicitor, being able to support them every step of the way is so rewarding.
The place I wanted to be
When looking for roles, I went to an open evening at the London office and completely fell in love with the people and the work they were doing. I met other trainees and senior members of staff, and everyone was so friendly and approachable. Alongside the diverse culture and flexible approach to working, the supportive colleagues really stood out to me.
My mind was made up, I really wanted to work here.
The call I was waiting for
I was delighted when I got the phone call to say that I’d been accepted onto the training contract. Knowing that I’d be working alongside highly-experienced solicitors in such a reputable firm was a really exciting prospect.
The training contract covers four six-month seats. I’ve been in medical negligence, workplace injury, specifically asbestos-related claims, and I’m currently sat in serious injury. It’s been great to gain experience across these areas as I’m always doing something different.
I spend lots of time working on senior members of the team’s cases, from case admin to discussing things with clients and counsel. I’ve also attended different court hearings and inquest proceedings. Since I started my training contract, I’ve really valued the opportunities to try new things and develop on the job.
Making a positive impact
In my current seat, clients come to us following a serious injury. This could be a brain or spinal injury caused by a road traffic accident, but whatever has happened, it’s often life-changing and completely unexpected. Our clients are the most inspirational people I’ve ever met and they really put things into perspective.
I feel incredibly privileged to be able to make a positive difference to their lives so early on in my career. Knowing that I’ve played a small part in helping them and their families as they try and rebuild their lives, is the best thing about this job.
A forward-thinking culture
There are lots of different networking groups to attend here. I’ve been part of IMAble since the beginning of my training contract. It’s great to be part of such a forward-thinking group which supports those with disabilities, both hidden and visible, in the workplace. I really encourage my colleagues to get involved with our range of groups, as I’ve met a variety of people from different backgrounds from across the business.
