My name’s Angela Lindley and I’m a marketing executive. I’ve worked here since 2021.
All of my colleagues know how much I love writing. I really wanted a career that was going to help me use my creativity but also apply the analytical skills I learned at University. Marketing seems to be a perfect blend of all three.
Cherishing Family Time
The flexible by choice policy is a big perk of working here and it’s had a really positive impact on me, it’s given me a much better work life balance. I’ve taken up archery, which is something I’ve always wanted to do and I don’t think it would’ve been possible without this flexible approach.
It’s nice to have the option to work from home or from the office. If I’ve got to get my head down and focus on getting a project finished, I can stay at home and really drive my energy into that. It also gives me a greater appreciation of the office days that I have with my team.
My family and friends are massively important to me. Because I’m not spending time commuting, I can say yes to spending more time with them, and cherish that quality time together.
Just before we went into lockdown in 2020, my Dad was diagnosed with cancer, and he was going through his treatment while we were all locked down. It was a really difficult time because it was impossible to see him. Thankfully he’s in remission now and it’s really made me value the time I have with him.
Opportunities To Excel
I decided to join Irwin Mitchell because I was looking for a role that would help me specialise in writing content. My job includes working closely with business developers and lawyers to present information about our firm, products and expertise in a way that’s clear and accessible. I also consider the best ways to communicate with our audience, whether that’s via email, social media, or other methods.
Law is something that touches everyone in different ways throughout their lives. Being able to help someone to access the support they need at a difficult point in their life is a very fulfilling job.
Working in such a large firm so early on in my career is both exciting and challenging. You’re working with people who’ve worked in the legal industry for many years, so there’s a lot of responsibility but that comes with many fantastic opportunities.
I’ve spoken to my manager about where I hope to go in my career and it’s great that they listen and take into account my ambitions. I’ve been given opportunities and projects that really play to my strengths. It’s important to know that progression is possible in your role, and that’s strongly encouraged here.
I’ve had many proud moments here. I wrote the Office Occupiers Survey Report which was an extraordinary experience. I worked with some fantastic lawyers and our design team, and the report feedback was unbelievable – one of our clients said it was a masterpiece!
I also worked on a graduate campaign, which won an award for the Best Lawyer Graduate recruitment campaign, which was incredible.
Being Environmentally Conscious
Another thing which attracted me to the firm was its strong sense of environmental and social responsibility, as I’m always trying to find ways to be more environmentally conscious. It’s great to work in a firm that’s aiming to go paperless and trying to reduce its carbon footprint as it strongly aligns with my values.
Diversity and inclusion are also cornerstones of our brand. I believe the more diverse your workforce is, the more talent you’re going to attract to represent the communities you serve, building a stronger firm overall.
I also love the calibre of the work that we produce. There’s a real sense of pride from everyone across the firm. You feel the pride in our brand, what it stands for and how we demonstrate our values every day.
A Supportive Team Culture
Being part of a friendly and supportive team is integral, especially in marketing, which can be very fast-paced. If you need to tell someone you’ve got too much on, or you need help with a task, there’s always someone who’ll support you.
All of the teams that I work with, from my marketing colleagues to the business developers and lawyers, are keen to help you find the right answers. We all want to do the best for our clients, that’s the human touch that matters.
Our team has a fantastic culture. We work together closely to deliver projects and always support one another. We’re also very social and enjoy going out for lunch when we have our office days and always check in on each other. It’s like an extended family.
Being recognised for your work is fundamental for career satisfaction. I recently wrote a report which received great feedback from our clients and the press. My managers made sure that the rest of the team was told about my success, and that I was rewarded for my hard work.
Understanding the impact of your contributions, and knowing you have the full support of your team behind you, that really matters.
Join The Team
If you’re considering applying to Irwin Mitchell, I would one hundred percent say go for it. From a marketing perspective, you’ll have some extraordinary opportunities. You’ll take part in projects that will get picked up by the national press, and you’ll work with some really inspiring lawyers and supportive colleagues.
In a broader sense, you’ll be supported every step of the way in your career growth and development. I instantly felt welcomed and part of the firm – it’s a truly great place to work.
