A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that plans ahead in case you become unable to make decisions for yourself in the future. You can specify what should happen to you and who should make decisions on your behalf.
The person you nominate to make decisions for you is known as your attorney. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney covering different powers your attorney will have:
- Property and Financial – managing your bank accounts and other finances, selling or managing your properties.
- Health and Welfare – deciding what medical care you receive, including residential care and any life-sustaining treatments.
Our solicitors will set up an LPA to give you and your family peace of mind for the future. And as a Santander customer, you’re entitled to an exclusive discount on the cost of our LPA services.
You can get your LPA started today with our convenient LPA service. Just complete our questionnaire and we’ll do the rest before returning the completed documents for you to sign.
Call today on 0333 0100 350 or complete the enquiry form on this page to request an LPA questionnaire or learn more about the service.
Why You Should Consider A Lasting Power Of Attorney
Putting a Lasting Power of Attorney in place offers security and peace of mind for you and your loved ones. It lets you decide what should happen if old age, illness or injury leave you unable to deal with your own affairs.
You can give instructions on what should happen to your money and your property and well as more personal welfare and treatment decisions.
Without a Lasting Power of Attorney, your family and friends may find it difficult to manage your affairs and they may not know what you would want. They may need to make a costly and time-consuming application for a deputyship order from the Court of Protection so they can make decisions for you.
By making a Lasting Power of Attorney you can:
- Choose a person who you trust to look after your affairs and welfare in the future
- Specify your wishes and what powers your attorneys should have
- Choose who is told about your Lasting Power of Attorney, allowing people to raise any concerns or questions
- Reduce the likelihood of conflicts in the future.
Lasting Power Of Attorney Options
There are two types of LPA that you can make, and your Santander discount is available on both:
- A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to choose one or more people to make decisions in areas such as medical treatment. Your attorneys will only be able to use these powers when you are unable to make decisions for yourself.
- A Property and Financial Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney enables you to choose one or more people to make property and financial decisions on your behalf. You can specify if it comes into force immediately or once you no longer have mental capacity. You can also specify exactly what powers your attorneys have.
You can make either type of LPA by itself, or both at the same time. You can also either nominate the same person as your attorney for both types of LPA, or choose different attorneys for each.
