Families Praise Yorkshire Children Of Courage Awards
The proud families of two ‘remarkable’ children who won awards at this year’s Yorkshire Children of Courage ceremony say the accolades have given them a much-needed confidence boost and hope for the future.
The Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2013 took place on Friday 4th October at New Dock Hall in Leeds, in honour of deserving young people in the county while raising funds for both UK and overseas charities.
Irwin Mitchell Leeds’ award-winning Court of Protection team saw two of their brain-injured clients, who they manage care and rehabilitation funds for, pick up special recognition awards for their bravery and inspirational attitudes to life.
Now, the families of both children have praised the awards ceremony for recognising children with severe brain injuries and spoke of their pride and happiness at the ‘much needed boost’ the awards have given.
Joanne Fraser, from Irwin Mitchell’s Court of Protection Team in Leeds, said: “The Yorkshire Children of Courage and Achievement Awards truly are an inspiration and a great way of honouring youngsters who have battled serious injuries or illnesses or who have shown their dedication to raising money for charity and caring for their loved ones. That is one of the reasons why we chose to sponsor an award for the second year running. This year we sponsored the outstanding bravery 0-12 years.
“The people we help have often had their lives turned upside down as a result of suffering a serious head injury. The impact of brain and other serious injuries can be utterly devastating for the victims and their families and are almost always life-changing.
“Our clients show remarkable strength, determination and willpower to come to terms with the injuries they have suffered and often need long-term care and support to help them rebuild their lives and achieve the best possible quality of life in the long-term. That’s why it is great to be able to recognise their positive attitudes at the Yorkshire Children of Courage and Achievement awards.”
