In challenging times, the thought of going through a legal dispute may feel like too much to deal with. Our new campaign is here to remind families whose lives get turned upside down by a serious injury or illness that nothing’s more important to us than being able to help you protect what matters most.
During a pandemic when nothing is straightforward, it's never been more important to provide clear and honest advice in complex situations. This is why our leading litigators wanted to feature in our launch video to reinforce that message and remind you that we’re here, just like we’ve always been.
Here to make things clear
Lisa Jordan is the head of our National Medical Negligence team which is the largest specialist team in the UK. She’s been a lawyer for 26 years, but has been focusing on children with cerebral palsy over the past decade.
Here’s what she has to say about the work we do and why we do it:
“During the most difficult time of their lives, our clients turn to us. This brings challenges and pressure but provides a purpose – to help people who need it more than ever before.
"We’re passionate about helping people who need our expertise and experience, from those that have been the subject of medical negligence, suffered life changing accidents or illness, and those who need their human rights protecting. We work hard to help our clients reach the outcome that's right for them, so they can enjoy the best quality of life possible, and our work doesn’t finish on the completion of their case.
"Through our partnerships with charities, such as Caudwell Children and Headway and our close relationships with rehabilitation providers, we help our clients and their families get the support they need and deserve.
"It’s important to remember that our services extend beyond those related to a client’s injury or illness. By working with our colleagues, we can take care of issues such as divorce, Wills, and contentious probate, so they have support every step of the way.”
On track when it comes to litigation
We’ve been confirmed as one of the leading firms involved in legal disputes throughout the Summer of 2020. Figures from The Lawyer show that we were one of the top three busiest law firms in UK courts throughout July and August despite the COVID-19 restrictions in place.
Whilst proud of our track record in the highest courts, we understand that most people may want to avoid going to court if possible, and so we’re proud to settle over 80% of our cases out of court.
This is why we’ve launched our leading litigator campaign to showcase our willingness to go the extra mile for our clients, so they get the justice they deserve.

Changes due to COVID-19
Lots of things have changed in 2020, and litigation has been no exception. Nobody could have predicted how this year would see us all move (very rapidly) to working remotely and digitally. Like everyone, we’re adapting to these strange times and in the past six months we’ve been involved in several pilots with courts services to help digitalise the process and move from paper to electronic bundles as well as utilising video technology to help cases progress.
But how else could COVID-19 change the way we run our cases? An obvious example is the increased likelihood of remote court hearings. Costly expert conferences in person are likely to be less common. In practical terms, this would mean a defendant could argue for a reduction in the ‘expert phase’ since these appointments can take place virtually, reducing the travel time.
That’s not the only change though - there’s several ways litigation could be impacted by the pandemic over the next few years, and how it will change the way we run our cases in future. From interim payment applications to loss of earning claims, our associate solicitor Richard Biggs has found five ways in which the pandemic may have changed legal disputes. You can read these in detail here.
Over the coming weeks and months we’ll be sharing stories from our leading litigators and the clients they’ve supported. Make sure you’re following us on Twitter and LinkedIn so you can see why we’re so focused on protecting what matters most.
