Our charity partner Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
We’re using the opportunity to raise awareness of their valuable work providing advice and support to thousands of people affected by avoidable harm in healthcare. We also want to commemorate our longstanding relationship with the charity, having worked with them since the early days in the 1980’s.
We were one of the first law firms to have accredited clinical negligence solicitors on AvMA’s national panel – something that we remain a part of today. Our commitment to patient safety mirrors the dedicated work they do for patients who’ve been affected by medical negligence.
We support AvMA in a number of ways, including attending and hosting fundraising events. Our colleagues from across the country are regular volunteers on the AvMA helpline to assist patients when they first reach out to the charity. Through this they help with general claims, advice, and inquests and provide referrals to panel solicitors.
AvMA’s 40th Year
AvMA was established in 1982 following public reaction to the television play Minor Complications. Through its work the charity’s brought about significant changes to the way the UK legal system deals with clinical negligence and has moved patient safety higher up the agenda.
AvMA helps over 3,000 people every year, demonstrating that the need for its work remains as great as ever.

40 Days of Fundraising
To help AvMA celebrate its 40th birthday milestone, colleagues across our national Medical Negligence team have created 40 days of challenges, where all of the funds raised will go to supporting the charity’s important work.
Activity is well underway across our offices ahead of AvMA’s Gala Dinner on Friday 2 December, where we hope to be able to confirm the amount we’ve raised.
