Sophie Cuthbertson recently joined our Military Injury team as an Associate Legal Executive. Although she’s not served in the military, the Armed Forces has always been a crucial part of her family.
We caught up with Sophie to find out more about her career-to-date, and why she chose to enter law.
“From as young as primary school age I was drawn to the idea of a career in law.
“Following a few years working for a major insurer in their injury department, I secured a role at a specialised Defendant Firm in Bristol. Whilst working there I studied part-time until I qualified.
“After 10 years I changed hats and moved to a claimant practice. Since then, I’ve never looked back!
“I now have around 20 years’ experience dealing with a variety of work, including civilian and military workplace injuries. But my passion has always laid with Armed Forces work.”
Speaking on this, Sophie said:
“The Armed Forces has always been an integral part of my family history with many serving. In particular, my stepdad was initially in the Artillery and was then as a Flying Officer in the RAF. My husband also served for 10 years with the Royal Horse Artillery – this included a frontline tour of Iraq. more recently, my son served with 42 Commando, including a frontline tour of Afghanistan.
“The Armed Forces culture and community is so unique. So, I believe it’s essential to understand the community and the affect a serious injury can have on those serving, and their family, to represent them to the high standard they deserve.”
Sophie continues:
“The era of remote work brought new opportunities for me, which led to the chance to join Irwin Mitchell's dedicated Military Injury team – I’m delighted.
“I have a passionate belief that injured service personnel deserve the very best medical care, rehabilitation, and legal support, to reflect the sacrifice made by them.
“In my spare time, I enjoy training at our local boxing club, training as often as time allows. I tend to measure my success on the amount of fun I have rather than speed, fitness, and talent!”
We’re delighted to welcome Sophie into our team.
