On Saturday 5 November, the Wales Festival of Remembrance took place at St David’s Hall in Cardiff.
The festival brought together serving and ex-Military personnel to commemorate and honour those who’ve lost their lives in conflict. The evening was in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Hosted by TV presenter Lucy Owen, the event began with a bilingual welcome from Commander 160th (Welsh Brigade). Tribute was then paid to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Throughout the night, there were a number of heartfelt tributes and speeches. These included reflections on the Falklands War in its 40th Anniversary year, and first-hand accounts of the sacrifices made.
Musical performances from – Kizzy Crawford and City Voices Cardiff contributed to a moving atmosphere. Also included was a tribute to the Gurkha Regiment, with performances by the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas.
To end the Festival, serving military personnel and representatives from other services filled the stage. This reminded guests of the important ongoing work of the Armed Forces and the sacrifices they continue to make. The Last Post was played, and the Hall fell into a poignant silence to reflect and pay tribute to those who’ve lost their lives fighting for their country.
Our serious injury solicitor Gruffydd Owen attended the event. He said:
“The Festival was an enjoyable event, yet a simultaneously humbling and important one.
“We’re delighted to have contributed for 50 Veterans from Caerphilly Veterans Hub to attend, as well as being able to attend ourselves.
“We take great pride supporting veterans and we’re proud to hold the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold award. We’ve recently opened an office in Cardiff, and we’re privileged to have been able to extend this support to those in the South Wales region. We look forward to continuing to do so.”
