If you enjoyed watching the Masters and want to go one step further, you’ll be interested in the On Course Foundation Spring Online Auction, hosted by the National Golf Club Challenge (NGCC). Over 1,000 golf clubs have come together to express gratitude to our injured service personnel by donating one mid-week fourball to the auction.
Now in its thirteenth year, in 2022 the NGCC is raising money for the On Course Foundation, a golfing charity that supports wounded, injured and sick service personnel. The charity has raised over £2.5 million over 13 years, and has support from leaders of golf including Sir Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter.
Stacey Jeffries is the founder of the NGCC, and a former client of ours. This year will be his last NGCC before retirement, and he wanted to thank everyone for their efforts.
The On Course Foundation uses golf as a vehicle for successful recovery. Players of differing skills and physical abilities can compete together due to the handicap system. Golf helps with controlling balance, limb co-ordination and concentration.
The charity was founded by John Simpson MBE. The initial pilot scheme ran in 2009 with collaboration from staff at Headley Court. It was formally launched at the Royal Household Golf Course at Windsor Castle in 2010.
Ambassadors include Nick Dougherty, Di Stewart and Colin Montgomerie OBE. Sir Andrew Gregory, Chief Executive of SSAFA, is one of the Trustees.
The On Course Foundation also offers a range of career opportunities through a transition pathway and practical training. The dedicated employment programme, which includes work experience placements and industry insight workshops, has placed over 90 beneficiaries in paid employment since 2010.
Roles include golf club management, tournament operations and hospitality. As part of the Positive Pathways Programme, the Foundation received a grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to support confidence-building events for veterans in the North East.
The auction will feature on social media at @NGCCAuction.
