The MoD introduced the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) in April last year, which is a new welfare benefit that is available to Service Personnel and Veterans. The new benefit provides an additional £134.40 per week.
Individuals who have already been awarded a Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP) of 50% or higher from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) will have be notified of the additional benefit due to them from Veterans-UK.
The AFIP is an alternative to the new Personal Independence Payment (PIP) which replaces the previous Disability Living Allowance (DLA). Individuals who are not entitled to GIP at 50% or higher, or are entitled to receive compensation under the War Pensions Scheme, may apply for PIP.
The AFIP is a non-taxable, non-means-tested benefit and is administered by Veterans-UK in conjunction with the AFCS.
Further information on the AFIP can be found by visiting the Veterans-UK website at www.veterans-uk.info or you can call 0800 169 2277.
