Irwin Mitchell Appoints Gurminder Kaur Nijjar As Group General Counsel
Irwin Mitchell has appointed Gurminder Kaur Nijjar as its new Group General Counsel (GC).
Gurminder replaces Bruce Macmillan who served as Irwin Mitchell’s first GC from February 2018.
Gurminder has over a decade of experience with Irwin Mitchell, originally joining the firm in 2012 as a solicitor before rising to her previous role as Deputy General Counsel. Following her promotion she will now lead the General Counsel Team and provide General Counsel guidance to the Group.
She started her legal career at the Legal Services Commission before moving into practice management. She then qualified into fraud and regulatory defence before moving into in-house legal and legal-ops roles. She was named in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 guide in January 2024.
Gurminder Kaur Nijjar, Group General Counsel at Irwin Mitchell, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and honoured to lead the General Counsel Team and continue to build new relationships with colleagues across the Group. It’s an exciting time at Irwin Mitchell and I look forward to contributing to the continued success and growth of the firm.”
Craig Marshall, Group Chief Executive Officer at Irwin Mitchell, said: “I’m delighted to confirm Gurminder’s permanent appointment. It’s great to be able to recognise and develop talent from within our business. I know Gurminder, with her wealth of experience and knowledge of our business, will have a strong impact as we look to continue delivery of our strategic priorities.”
In 2024 Irwin Mitchell opened new offices in Brighton and Nottingham and passed £300m in revenue for the first time. The firm has the leading complex personal injury team, one of the largest private client and family teams and acts for mid-market corporates.
