Relatives Instruct Lawyers To Help Them Access Specialist Support Following Lisa Chapman’s Death Aged 28
Grieving relatives have revealed the “life sentence of pain” they’ve been left to face after a young mum was killed in a hit-and-run crash while celebrating a christening.
Lisa Chapman suffered fatal head injuries when a Ford Fiesta ploughed into her in Church Hill, Charing Heath, Kent.
She was returning to her car and carrying her four-year-old son Billy in her arms when the crash happened at about 9.25pm on 2 September. The Fiesta driver failed to stop at the scene, only stopping further along the road after the car became undriveable.
The 28-year-old was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Billy was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Following Lisa’s death, her mum Tina, instructed expert road accident lawyers at Irwin Mitchell.
Tina has now joined her legal team at Irwin Mitchell in issuing a road safety plea and warning of the “devastating” consequences of dangerous driving.
It comes after the driver of the Ford Fiesta which crashed into Lisa was sentenced.
Expert Opinion
“Lisa was a much-loved mum and daughter who was adored by her family.
“Her unnecessary death in such tragic circumstances has caused a great deal of upset. Understandably Lisa’s family have been left heartbroken and are still trying to come to terms with what happened.
“Lisa’s death vividly highlights the devastation that can be caused by drivers who pose a real danger to others by thinking it’s acceptable to break the law.
“While nothing will make up for Lisa’s death we hope today’s sentence will act as a deterrent and make drivers think about the consequences of their actions, so the number of people killed or badly injured on our roads reduces.
“We’ll continue to support Lisa’s family at this extremely distressing time.” Darshana Patel - Associate Solicitor
Tina said: “Lisa was a wonderful mum and daughter. She was very house proud and would do anything for her family which meant everything to her. All she wanted was the best for her children.
“From the moment Lisa was taken from us, life as we know it changed forever. The pain it has caused has devastated our family.
“Losing her this way has truly broken our hearts and we’ll never be the same again. How do you explain to her children that their mummy was involved in an accident and will never return?
“The feelings we have of loss and sorrow are so strong. We’ve been robbed of all the love Lisa had to share. Her death was needless, unfair and a waste of life.
“The last few months have been a living nightmare. No amount of sentence will ever bring Lisa back nor end the life sentence of pain our family have been left to face.
“All we can hope for now is that drivers realise the pain they can cause innocent families and take care on the roads at all times. We truly hope that no other family has to endure what we’re going through.”
Following Lisa’s death, her three children, Jack, Billy and Michael are being cared for and supported by their family.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta was sentenced to ten years and ten months and was disqualified from driving for 206 months when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court. He had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision and failing to report a collision.
