A police investigation has been launched into around 40 deaths at a Brighton hospital. 

Sussex Police is looking into allegations of medical negligence at Royal Sussex County Hospital. 

It’s understood that the deaths occurred between 2015 and 2020 and are connected to general surgery and neurosurgery departments.

Allegations of lack of patient safety at Brighton hospital 

The police investigation has been launched after two whistle-blowers made a number of allegations around patient safety. These included that, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust, which runs Royal Sussex County Hospital, failed to properly investigate deaths and learns from mistakes, reports The Guardian. 

The Trust said it was co-operating fully with police.
