Young Rugby Fan Will Be Mascot At Twickenham To Mark World Cancer Day

Saturday marks both World Cancer Day and the start of the 2023 6 Nations Championships as England take on Scotland at Twickenham.

As part of our longstanding relationship with Maggie’s, a charity focussed on providing cancer support, and through our multi-faceted RFU partnership we’ve been able to give Daniel, aged 10, the chance of a life time.

He’ll be mascot for the England v Scotland game this Saturday 4th February, welcoming the team as part of the flag wavers when they arrive at Twickenham. Along with the other mascots, Daniel will wear the England rugby kit as he’s escorted to the pitch by an England star. 

Daniel has been supported by cancer charity, Maggie’s Glasgow, alongside his dad Adam, 49, and his teenage siblings Isaac, Joseph and Iona, following the death of their mum Kirstie from breast cancer in 2020.

Maggie’s has helped Adam to manage his grief and speak with his children about trying to navigate life as a family without their mum. Their professional staff also helped to manage the children’s expectations as their mum’s illness took hold.

Daniel’s dad, Adam, is English while his mum was Scottish – his siblings all support Scotland but Daniel is an avid England supporter.

Daniel said of the experience: "I felt very honoured to walk out with the England team in front of some many people. It was an amazing experience and I was so excited about meeting the players."
