Family Instructs Serious Injury Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell More Than A Decade After Collision To Help Son Access Rehabilitation

A young man left with a severe brain injury in a road traffic accident as a child has received an £11 million settlement which will fund the specialist lifetime care he requires. 

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered a number of serious injuries in the incident which happened in South London in the early 2000s. 

He was airlifted to hospital where he suffered several seizures. Following tests he was diagnosed with a serious brain injury. 

He was treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital and discharged home after nearly two months.

His parents instructed a law firm to pursue legal proceedings against the driver of the vehicle which hit their son. 

However, more than a decade after the collision and with no rehabilitation package in place, in 2017, the family instructed Irwin Mitchell to take over their case. 

Since then the family’s legal team has secured a number of interim payments to fund rehabilitation, which enabled the man to move into his own flat where he is supported by a round-the-clock care team.

The driver’s insurance company has now agreed an £11 million settlement which has been approved by the High Court. 

The funds will ensure the man can continue to access the vital rehabilitation and therapies he requires and have a care team in place to help him live as independently as possible.
