Annual Display Is Raising Record Breaking Total For Emergency Department Appeal
Irwin Mitchell has once again sponsored one of a flurry of snowflakes at Sheffield Children’s Hospital this Christmas, helping to brighten up children’s lives and support this year’s appeal.
The firm has sponsored one of the large snowflakes, one of over 250 adorning the building this year, which together are set to raise more than £250,000 for the Emergency Department Appeal.
The money raised in this year’s appeal will contribute towards expanding the existing emergency department at the Children’s Hospital, which will see the waiting room expand to four times the current size, with additional triage and assessment facilities, plus new consultancy and examination rooms.
In addition to sponsoring a snowflake, the Children’s Hospital is also the Sheffield Office Charity of the Year, all part of the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF). Established in 1997, the IMCF is an independent registered charity which has donated more than £2 million to good causes throughout the UK.
This year has seen staff from the Sheffield office engaging in a number of activities to raise money in support of one of only four children’s hospitals in the country. The hospital has been serving South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire since 1876 and cares for over 260,000 patients a year.
Expert Opinion
“Irwin Mitchell has supported the annual snowflake appeal for many years now and is proud to be involved again in backing the appeal and the pleasure the display brings to children and their families who rely on the hospital’s care and support at Christmas.
“As the Children’s Hospital is also the Sheffield office Charity of the Year, the snowflake appeal has an added significance for us this year. It’s a privilege to be involved in an initiative that raises funds for such a good cause, but at the same time helps to brighten up the lives of children and their families facing real challenges at what should be one of the happiest times of children’s lives.” Niall Baker - Managing Partner - Court of Protection and Public Law
The Children’s Hospital Charity change children’s lives every day, by pioneering medical treatment. The hospital has always depended on charitable support and every penny raised makes a big difference to the thousands of children and their families who rely on it.
In addition to sponsoring a star, staff in the Sheffield office have continued to come up with new ways to raise funds for the charity. In October, five colleagues raised over £500 by completing one of the toughest cycling challenges in the UK, by coving 100km in a single day.
The snowflakes will be illuminated from 6 December and will continue to be an impressive and welcoming sight on the approach to the hospital from the University roundabout throughout the month.
