Irwin Mitchell Representing Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle
Nadine Wood from Lechlade, Gloucestershire, was seriously injured in May 2020 when she was struck by a vehicle whilst standing on the pavement of a bridge, just a minute’s walk from her house.
Nadine, 47, instructed specialist serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate and help her access the rehabilitation and therapies she requires to aid her recovery. She has now spoken out after the driver of the vehicle pleaded guilty of two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Expert Opinion
“The past year has been incredibly difficult for Nadine and she is still impacted by the injuries she sustained in the incident, both physically and psychologically.
While Nadine has made great progress in her recovery she still faces many challenges ahead.
The guilty plea in the case is a major milestone for Nadine in her recovery. This case vividly highlights the consequences innocent road users can be left to face because of the actions of others.
We will continue to support Nadine to help her make the best recovery she can. It’s also vital that people take care on the roads at all times.”

Nadine said: “What happened that day is still so vivid in my mind. I was standing on the Halfpenny Bridge when I heard a car approaching at speed from my left and was aware of a car also approaching from my right. I realised something bad was going to happen but had no time to react. In a split second, I was crushed up against the bridge by one of the cars. Then I was on the ground in excruciating pain.
“I ended up in hospital for more than two weeks with injuries to my pelvis, hip and spine. More than a year on, I’m still significantly affected by my injuries on a daily basis.
“I don’t think I’ll be back to full health for a very long time, if ever, but I’m grateful that my recovery is progressing with rehabilitation treatment and the support of my friends, family, and the local community.
“I am struggling to comprehend how people can still be so incredibly irresponsible. All I can hope for now is that other drivers learn from this and stay safe on the roads. I wouldn’t wish for others to have to go through what I have.”
