Fund-raiser Supporting Vital Work Of Day One
A team of lawyers from Leeds are completing the equivalent of seven marathons in just seven weeks to raise funds for trauma charity Day One.
Seven serious injury experts from law firm Irwin Mitchell have joined up with barristers Kings Chambers in supporting Day One’s ‘7 Marathons in 7 Weeks’ campaign to cover a distance of 26.2 miles each week for seven consecutive weeks. They can participate in whatever way they choose, for example walking, running or on a cross trainer.
The team kicked off their challenge on May 2, and have already raised more than £2,500 for the charity, surpassing their initial target of £2,000.
Day One is a charity that works with Leeds Major Trauma Centre to support people in West Yorkshire who have sustained serious and often life-changing injuries. It is linked to Leeds Cares, the official partner of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and provides practical and emotional support to patients and family members in the immediate aftermath of a major trauma and throughout the recovery journey. This is through a variety of means including legal and welfare benefits advice, peer support and crisis loans.
Sion Kingston, partner and serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, is among those taking part in ‘7 Marathons in 7 Weeks’ and he has almost run the equivalent of six marathons already.
Expert Opinion
“Through our work supporting those who have suffered serious and sometimes life-changing injuries, we have a longstanding relationship with Day One. The charity carries out fantastic work in supporting people across West Yorkshire and it’s important we support them, particularly during this uncertain time.
The Covid-19 pandemic has left a lot of charities and services struggling so we were delighted to get on board with this fund-raiser.
A lot of our team members have already exceeded the equivalent of two marathons, and I am almost at six. We have already gone over the amount we hoped to raise which is brilliant!
The money we raise will help the charity continue with its vital work in supporting those affected by trauma, and we would like to thank everyone that has donated so far.”
