Irwin Mitchell Duo ‘Move For Meso’ In Virtual 10k for Mesothelioma UK
Two local lawyers are set to swap trials for trainers, as they take on a virtual half marathon on 4 July in aid of a national charity supporting people living with asbestos-related disease.
Partner Kris Inskip and trainee solicitor Holly McAdam from the Manchester office of Irwin Mitchell are taking part in the Waters Virtual Race half marathon, to raise money for Mesothelioma UK after the Wilmslow road race was cancelled due to the coronavirus lockdown.
The run follows Action Mesothelioma Day on Friday 3 July and is part of the firms’ activities in support of Mesothelioma UK’s ‘Move for Meso’ campaign, taking place in June and July this year.
Expert Opinion
“Holly and I were due to run in the Wilmslow Running Festival on 14 March, but it was cancelled that morning due to Covid-19.
“Initially the race was put back to October before being re-scheduled for March next year, but when the virtual event was announced as an option, Holly and I both wanted to go for it.
It should still be great fun and importantly, supports the festival and allows us to keep our fundraising going for Mesothelioma UK at a time when charities need support more than ever.” Kristofer Inskip - Partner
The Waters Virtual Race allows runners to compete by use of smartphones and allows all competitors to see where they would be on the Wilmslow route in real time. Live leader boards and splits will still be available as they would have been in the original race.
Running the virtual race all counts towards Move for Meso, a challenge for supporters of Mesothelioma UK to clock 5,000 km in five weeks and fundraise at the same time for a UK charity dedicated to improving care and treatment for all UK patients with this cancer.
Holly McAdam, a trainee lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said: “Sadly we see many clients and their families in our daily work living with mesothelioma as a result of asbestos exposure. Completing the run is a great way to raise money for a charity dedicated to providing wonderful support and assistance people with this cancer at an extremely difficult time.
“It’s amazing to see the ways people are working around the lockdown to support great causes and Kris and I are really looking forward to representing the asbestos-related disease team from the Manchester office and being a part of supporting a charity very close to all our hearts.”
