Irwin Mitchell Nominates Charity Of The Year For 2020
A London-based charity which provides vital support to vulnerable people and those affected by homelessness is set to receive a major fundraising boost after it was nominated by staff at Irwin Mitchell to be its Charity of the Year for 2020.
Every year, the national law firm holds a vote for lawyers and others based across each of its 14 offices to select a good cause which they can support for 12 months through voluntary work and fundraising activities.
The initiative is part of work undertaken by the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, an independent charity established in 1997 which has raised more than £2 million for a range of different organisations both in the UK and abroad.
This year, the London office of Irwin Mitchell has voted to nominate Whitechapel Mission, an organisation which has been providing support to vulnerable people and those affected by homelessness since 1876.
Expert Opinion
“We have always been committed to getting involved in the communities where we are based and doing what we can to support vital local causes within those areas.
The Charity of the Year initiative has given us a great chance to do that and we are delighted to be supporting Whitechapel Mission across the next 12 months. The charity undertakes some truly vital work and we are very excited at the prospect of helping it across the coming year.” Alison Eddy - Partner
Originally established 143 years ago, Whitechapel Mission offers a range of support to those affected by homelessness. Not only does it operate a day centre, it also provides skills training, career advice, activity programmes and specialist support for those with complex needs.
The charity is thought to have helped around 6,000 homeless people in 2019 alone, while it has served more than 100,000 breakfasts and benefitted from the support of more than 5,000 volunteers across the same period.
Whitechapel Mission also runs regular fundraising events throughout the year, including a 10km race in July and a Monopoly Challenge in June, and staff at Irwin Mitchell are already looking forward to tackling them.
Tony Miller, a director at Whitechapel Mission said: “We are simply overjoyed that Irwin Mitchell’s London office has chosen to support us as their Charity of the Year for 2020.
“We have big plans across the coming year and the money raised by the law firm will go directly towards helping individuals who are in need. We simply can’t wait to work with them in the next few months.”
