The Pair Have Already Raised Over £5,000 In Aid Of Prevent Breast Cancer
Two school friends – who are now Manchester-based lawyers – are embarking on a trek of a lifetime this month to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.
Lindsay Wise and Rhiannon Jones QC, who have been close friends for 38 years after attending Manchester High School for Girls together, are preparing to scale the heights of the world’s highest peak to reach Everest Base Camp while raising money for Prevent Breast Cancer. The trek will take place between 11 and 28 May, with the pair having raised over £5,000 already for the worthy cause.
Expert Opinion
“It’s a charity personal to me as I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and am now in remission.
At the time of my diagnosis, I was 46 and it came as a huge shock.
I’m a great believer in things happening for a reason. I’ve seen strengths and weaknesses in my character, and as a result of what has happened to me, I have re-evaluated my life and its true meaning.
To me, nothing beats protecting my health. That being said, I will be testing that to the extreme with the trek to Everest Base Camp, but I am really pleased that we will be raising some much-deserved money for Prevent Breast Cancer, and at the same time hopefully replacing my memories of difficult times with happy ones.”

Lindsay was treated at the Nightingale Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital where she received “first class” treatment, and Rhiannon, who works as a barrister at Byrom Street Chambers, also provided a great deal of support to her friend and continues to do so by joining Lindsay on her trek.
All money raised will go directly to Prevent Breast Cancer.
Expert Opinion
“This is my way of saying thank you and giving back something to those outstanding individuals who helped me and will help others in the future.
In times of trouble, your true friends are there to support you. Rhiannon was one of them. A school friend of old, she was there to listen to my worries, make me laugh and support me through treatment and now she has agreed to take time out of her busy legal diary to come with me as we trek to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer.”

Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, working with internationally renowned scientists to try and make the disease preventable for future generations. Their research strategy consists of four pillars – Gene Research, Drug Research, Improved Screening and Early Diagnosis, and Diet and Lifestyle Research – and the money raised by Lindsay and Rhiannon will help to fund their fight in stopping breast cancer before it starts.
