Relatives Join Irwin Mitchell In Urging Motorists To Take Care On Roads

A family have spoken of how their “lives have been torn apart” by a hit and run driver who was today jailed for six years for killing a young man.

Carl Moore suffered fatal brain and skull injuries when he was hit by a Range Rover while crossing Walsall Wood High Street on 24 November last year.

The 28-year-old was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.

Following Carl’s death, his family, instructed specialist road accident lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to help them access the specialist support they need to try overcome their loss.

The family have now joined their legal team at Irwin Mitchell in warning of the devastating consequences of dangerous driving. It comes after the driver was today sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court for causing death by dangerous driving.

Carl, of Brownhills, had been enjoying an evening in The Boatman’s Rest Pub. He was crossing High Street to go and comfort and upset friend when he was hit by the Range Rover being driven by Stefan Gvozdenovic.

Gvozdenovic fled the scene in the vehicle before handing himself into police later that morning.

Carl’s Step-Father Neil Hackett, said: “Carl was such a kind and generous person who would do anything for his friends and family.

““Every day and trying to come to terms with what happened is a real battle. Sometimes Carl’s death still does not seem real, but then something such as Christmas or his funeral happens, and we are jolted back to reality.

“Carl had his whole future ahead of him, but this was snatched away from him in a split second because of actions of the driver. 

“Our lives have been ripped apart and will never be the same again. All we can hope for now is that Carl’s death is not totally in vain and drivers are aware of the life sentence they can inflict on others by their dangerous actions.  We urge all motorists to take care on the roads at all times as we would not wish the pain we are going through on anyone else.

“We would like to thank the emergency services for everything they did to try and save Carl and all those who have sent us messages of support. To know that Carl was so many people thought so highly of Carl provides us with comfort.”

Gvozdenovic, 33, of Birchills, Walsall, had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving in relation to Carl’s death.

He will serve two-thirds of his sentence, meaning he will be released from prison after four years. Judge Michael Challinor deemed Gvozdenovic to be a dangerous offender and placed him on licence for six years upon his release. If he re-offends during this time he will serve the remainder of his jail term.

Gvozdenovic also received a concurrent eight month custodial sentence for a previous driving offence he committed the month before Carl died. He was also banned from driving for ten years upon his release and must pass an extended re-test.
