Serious Injury Experts And Marketing Campaign Recognised
Leading law firm Irwin Mitchell is celebrating after serious injury experts and a major marketing campaign were recognised at a prestigious industry awards ceremony held in Manchester.
The Personal Injury Awards took place for the twelfth year at the Hilton Deansgate on 27 November and put a spotlight on the excellence of individuals and organisations across the personal injury field.
Irwin Mitchell was delighted to take home three prizes from the event, with the firm’s Manchester-based serious injury partner Cathy Leech being named Catastrophic Injury Lawyer of the Year.
In addition, it also secured the Marketing Campaign of the Year award for the second year running – this time for its ‘I Am Able’ campaign which focuses on ability, not disability.
Meanwhile, retired London-based serious injury lawyer Colin Ettinger picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award. He still has various links with the firm.
Expert Opinion
βThe Personal Injury Awards has become a truly prestigious industry event and it is fantastic to see Irwin Mitchell enjoying success with these wins.
The awards are a fine testament to the tireless hard work of those within the firm, with Cathy and Colin, who is now retired, rightly being recognised for their incredible commitment to helping those with serious injuries access the very best support.
Furthermore, our marketing team is a finely-honed machine which boasts experience, energy and creativity across all disciplines. They have been critical to the success of the PI division, as well as the firm as a whole. Of course, the pressure is now on for the hat-trick of wins, so we look forward to seeing what they come up with next!β

Cathy’s win was recognition for her work with clients including Ainsley Sinckler-Campbell of Irwin Mitchell’s ‘I Am Able’ campaign, who sustained a serious spinal cord injury in a road traffic collision. Cathy and her team successfully secured funds for Ainsley to access a range of support, including adapted accommodation and transport, case management and a number of therapies.
Reflecting on her win, Cathy, who is based in Manchester, said: “I am delighted to have won and couldn’t have achieved everything I have without my colleagues at Irwin Mitchell to support me.
“It really is a team effort and this award shows just how committed we are to our roles in helping our clients, many of whom have sustained life-changing injuries.
“I endeavour to continue our hard work in supporting those who need it.”
The ‘I Am Able’ campaign which was recognised at the Personal Injury Awards was launched earlier this year and put a spotlight on the progress that five of the firm’s clients – including Ainsley - have made since sustaining serious injuries.
The aim of the initiative was to celebrate and share their inspiring stories, while also highlighting how Irwin Mitchell has been able to help them along the way.
The latest I Am Able video focuses on our client Jason, who doctors said would never walk again after a serious road traffic accident. Watch the video and read about how Jason proved them wrong.
