Holidaymakers Seek Answers After Illness Ruins Breaks At Sinbad Aqua Resort In Egypt
Frustrated holidaymakers whose luxury breaks at the four-star Sinbad Aqua Resort in Egypt earlier this year were ruined by gastric illness have called on specialist travel lawyers to help them gain answers and justice regarding the problems they have faced.
Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team has been instructed by six people affected by issues at the site including David Cooper, 45, from Havant, who was hospitalised after developing gastroenteritis during his two-week family holiday at the resort from the end of June.
The illness proved so severe that he required eight sets of medication and back in the UK doctors have suggested that it may have left him with long-term health issues.
Following their instruction, legal experts at Irwin Mitchell – who have vast experience in providing advice and support to those affected by illness issues across the globe – have already started investigations regarding the issues that David and others faced. The team at Irwin Mitchell has notably recovered millions of pounds from tour operators including representing over 600 people who fell ill at the Holiday Village in Turkey over successive years between 2009 and 2014, and over 1,000 fell who fell ill following holidays at the Bahia Principe in the Dominican Republic in 2007.
Expert Opinion
"We are hugely concerned by the accounts provided by our clients, including reports that there were many others at the hotel who were ill, and we have commenced our own investigations into the issues.
“A case of this nature highlights the significant long-term impact that gastric illness problems can have and, as such, it is important that the seriousness of these issues are not downplayed, especially where it appears that there may have been a wider problem at the hotel.
“No one should have to face what our clients have been through and we are determined to ensure they can get their voices heard on this matter.” Jatinder Paul - Partner
David Cooper’s holiday with his wife Hayley, 38, and son Ronnie, 13, at the Sinbad Aqua Resort – which was booked through TUI – started on 22 June, with his illness problems first emerging around six days later.
He recalled: “I had a high fever and diarrhoea and was in a really bad way. I had no option but to go to the doctor and almost immediately he said I would need to go to a local hospital.
“It was almost surreal being in a hospital when I should have been enjoying my holiday and it is shocking to think I needed so much medication. I couldn’t believe it when I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and the illness just completely ruined the rest of the holiday.
“While I was in hospital we even had to leave our son on his own with other guests looking after him – it was a nightmare.”
Following his return to the UK, David saw his GP and it is now thought he has developed irritable bowel syndrome and is undergoing further investigations.
David said: “I’m so frustrated by everything that has happened as a result of the illness. It not only ruined my holiday but now seems to have left me with a long-term health condition.
“After everything I’ve faced I feel like I deserve some answers regarding how the illness emerged and whether it could have been avoided. I truly hope steps can be taken to prevent anyone else facing the issues that I have.”
