Friendly Taking Place As NU Foundation Gears Up For First Season In EAFA Football League
The Newcastle United Foundation Amputee Football Club is preparing for its first season in the EAFA Football League by playing a team from law firm Irwin Mitchell.
The NU Foundation has strong links with the law firm’s office in the city. Earlier this year it received a grant from Irwin Mitchell as part of the law firm’s Don’t Quit, Do It campaign.
The £500 donation from the law firm was put towards helping the team with purchasing training equipment, venue hire for training sessions and travel expenses for fixtures.
The team, which was re-established thirteen months ago, competed for the first time in the EAFA National League Cup competition earlier this year, finishing runners-up in the Plate competition, after losing their first round tie in the Cup competition to eventual winners Portsmouth, 2-0.
The friendly will take place on 8th October at Walker Activity Dome, kick off at 7pm.
Reggie Dornan, Senior Disability Football Development Officer, said: “Since 2009, the Newcastle United Foundation has been working hard to provide good quality, professional disability football coaching to both adults and children.
“We take an inclusive approach to football to ensure everyone can enjoy the beautiful game.
“Irwin Mitchell has been great with the team, helping us with training equipment, ensuring we can travel to fixtures, and providing us with a friendly as we prepare for our first season in the league.”
The EAFA Football League is sponsored by Irwin Mitchell and the first round of matches is scheduled to take place on 27th January next year. The pre-season cup will take place next month, on 17th November at Manchester City Football Club Academy.
Fran Mayes, who heads up the Personal Injury team at Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office and is lead Partner of the Serious Injury team, said:
