Loved Ones Call On Preston Man’s Ex-Workmates To Help Battle For Justice
The family of a former bricklayer who died earlier this year after being diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease are appealing for his ex-colleagues to come forward and help them gain justice regarding his death.
Nigel Fellows, from Preston, died aged 78 on September 4th 2017 after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lung commonly associated with exposure to asbestos materials.
Following his death, Nigel’s family instructed specialist asbestos-related disease lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how he came to develop the illness and whether more could have been done to prevent his contact with the deadly material.
Now, as part of their investigations, the legal experts are keen to hear from anyone who worked with Nigel during his time at the Preston-based construction firm Barrow Bros between 1953 and 1960, as well as any former workmates from his time at Thomas Croft in the mid-1960s.
Dominic Hemsi, the specialist asbestos-related disease lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office who is representing the family, said:
Nigel was employed as an apprentice at Barrow Bros and recalled being exposed to asbestos during a specific job at Custom House in Heysham, Lancashire, where the building had a roof made from the material. His role also involved cutting up asbestos roof panels and insulation board for a range of jobs in the Manchester area.
He undertook similar work for Thomas Croft, with his job as a bricklayer meaning he regularly worked alongside joiners who were cutting insulation boards for fire doors.
Richard Jarvis, Nigel’s son-in-law, said: “It is only a few months since Nigel’s death and the whole family remains devastated by his death.
“It was incredibly difficult to see how mesothelioma affected him, with the symptoms having a huge impact on his wellbeing in the final days of his life. While nothing will bring him back, we know that he would have wanted justice regarding how this could have happened to him and we are determined to ensure it happens.”
