Lawyers Instructed To Investigate Issues At Club Hotel Riu Karamboa
Frustrated holidaymakers whose stay at a five-star Cape Verde holiday resort taken in the Autumn of this year were ruined by an outbreak of serious gastric illness, with one suspected case of Salmonella, have instructed specialist illness lawyers to help them gain answers regarding the problems.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist International Personal Injury team has now heard from a number of people who developed gastric illness symptoms such as diarrhoea, abdominal pains and vomiting during holidays at the Club Hotel Riu Karamboa in September and October which were booked through and TUI UK Limited.
Some holidaymakers have revealed how their wedding anniversary and birthday celebrations were ruined by the issues, while others have spoken about witnessing a range of problems from some of the food being undercooked to dirty cutlery and crockery in restaurants.
Following their instruction, Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team have commenced their own investigations into the cause of the illness in an effort to help their clients gain the answers they are seeking from their ordeals.
Clare Pearson, the legal expert at Irwin Mitchell who is representing the holidaymakers, said:
Expert Opinion
“We are hugely concerned to have heard several first-hand accounts regarding the illness problems which affected those staying at the Club Hotel Riu Karamboa in recent months.
“Through our work, we have seen on numerous occasions how such issues can have a lasting impact on victims, not only ruining their precious time away with loved ones but also forcing them to require time off work as they attempt to recover.
“The seriousness of these issues simply cannot be underestimated and often leaves people struggling with long-term health problems as a result of such holiday illnesses. We are determined to ensure that our clients can get answers about how this illness emerged and whether it could have been avoided.” Clare Pearson - Legal Executive & Associate
Among those to call on Irwin Mitchell for help is Marie Dowell, 47, from Leicester, who fell ill just two days into her week-long stay at the Club Hotel Riu Karamboa with her husband Adrian, 49 in September. The holiday was booked to mark their 1st wedding anniversary.
She said: “This was meant to be a very special break for us both, yet the illness spoilt it. I suffered nausea, headaches and diarrhoea and the problems were so severe that I was still struggling and needed medical treatment when we arrived back in the UK.
“When I spoke to the rep all she could say was that I should stay in my room, as the hotel was on ‘red alert’ due to an illness going around. We’d noticed issues like some of the food being undercooked and on occasion dirty cutlery during our time there, but never thought for a second we were at risk of illness.”
