Southampton Event Focuses On Neural Plasticity

Serious injury lawyers from Irwin Mitchell in partnership with Hobbs Rehabilitation are hosting a conference in Southampton to highlight the clinical relevance of neural plasticity when treating spinal cord injuries.  

A few places remain for the event which takes place on Thursday 25 February. All attendees will be helping to raise money for the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust.  

The day with be chaired by Dr Geoffrey Guy who will introduce the expert speakers who will talk throughout the day. This begins with an overview of spinal cord plasticity from Dr John Riddell, a Senior Lecturer from the Centre for Neuroscience at Glasgow University.  

The focus of the conference is to promote discussion about the role of neural plasticity in spinal cord rehabilitation and the brain and spinal cord’s ability to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. 

Neural plasticity allows the nerve cells in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment.

The only cost of attending the conference is a £20 donation to the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust, a dedicated charity who assist people with spinal cord injury, enabling independence and quality of life.
