Expert Lawyers Investigating Builder’s Exposure To Deadly Asbestos Dust And Fibres
The devastated family of a former builder are appealing to their late father and husband’s former colleagues in Hull for information on the working conditions he endured and how he may have been exposed to asbestos dust at work, which contributed to his death.
An investigation into the death of Brian Palmer, who died at the age of 71 in July 2016, is underway after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an aggressive asbestos-related cancer affecting the lining of the lungs caused by exposure to asbestos, shortly before his death.
Brian, from Hull, worked for a building company called JC Wilson Ltd as an apprentice in 1959 and remained with them until 1963.
Before his death, Brian instructed expert industrial disease lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how he was exposed to asbestos and why more wasn’t done by his employers to protect him at work from the deadly dust.
Now his widow, Sandra, and their children, with help from their legal team at Irwin Mitchell, are appealing to those who worked alongside Brian at JC Wilson Ltd in the late 1950s and early 60s to come forward with any information they may have on how he was exposed to asbestos and the warnings, if any, provided to employees about the dangers of the substance.
Fay Marshall, a specialist industrial disease lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, representing Brian’s family, said:
Sandra, a grandmother of nine, said: “When Brian started to suffer chest pains we never ever thought the problem was so serious, so we were completely shocked when he was diagnosed with mesothelioma.
“It was extremely difficult for us to see his health deteriorate so quickly and we are determined to keep fighting for him and to understand why more wasn’t done to protect him from exposure to asbestos.
“We can only hope that those who worked with him at JC Wilson Ltd will come forward and help us get justice for Brian.”
