Mum seeking answers after death of daughter at Derby Hospital

A mother is hoping for answers as to how her newborn baby died at Royal Derby Hospital, when the inquest into her death opens this month.

Amelia Brusby was delivered by emergency caesarean section on December 22, 2014, but died shortly after.

Her mum, Danielle Barton, from Belper, Derbyshire had an uneventful pregnancy, and was admitted to the Royal Derby Hospital at 40 weeks and eight days.

But scans had confirmed that baby Amelia was measuring large and after a long and difficult labour a natural birth failed to progress and the decision was made to deliver Amelia by caesarean section.

Soon after her delivery, Amelia’s condition deteriorated. She died just hours after her birth.

Danielle, 22, developed an infection and became seriously ill, remaining in hospital for eight days.

Danielle has instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers Irwin Mitchell in a bid to get answers as to how her baby girl died.

The inquest into Amelia’s death will be held at Derby Coroner’s Court at 10.30am on April 29 and will be attended by Danielle, her partner James Brusby and her mother Karen.
