Driver Sentenced To Two Years In Prison For Dangerous Driving

A talented Formula 1 Technician has been forced to give up his career after suffering a severe brain injury and multiple broken bones after a car collided with his motorbike in April this year

Joe Revill, from Loughborough, was driving his Suzuki motorbike along B5324 in Osgathorpe on 16^th April, with his girlfriend Kirsty as a pillion passenger when a car driving on the wrong side of the road crashed into them.

The 27-year-old was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by Air Ambulance and diagnosed with a severe brain injury, fractures to his leg, wrists, collar bone, also damage to his left lung, a torn aorta and he contracted hospital acquired pneumonia during his admission.

Kirsty Jarram has instructed specialist serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell, who have taken over Joe’s case from another law firm, are now investigating the accident and working towards securing a care and rehabilitation package for him to help with his recovery.

The driver Philip Damiani pleaded guilty at Leicester Magistrates court on 25^th September to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and he has been sentenced today (23^rd October) at Leicester Crown Court to two years in prison and a three year driving ban.

Kirsty, 29, was also severely injured in the accident, suffering a head injury, fractured pelvis, vertebra and leg. She has had to have pins and metal plates inserted in her back and leg to stabilise her injuries.

Commenting after the hearing, Joe said: “Our lives have been turned upside down since the accident earlier this year – we are both struggling to come to terms with the extent of our injuries, and it is a devastating blow to me that I am not able to return to the job I loved.

“I don’t remember the accident due to the extent of my brain injury, which in a way I am thankful of. I would like to thank the Air Ambulance and the emergency paramedics for everything they did for me when the accident happened.

“I’m pleased that today marks the end of the court case and that the driver admitted the offences he committed and that justice has been done. Kirsty and I will be solely focusing on our recovery and I hope that with the help of our legal team at Irwin Mitchell that we will be able to help me gain access to specialist treatment to help with my recovery and rehabilitation.”
