Seven People Affected By Illness After Eating At Cardiff Restaurant
Public Health Wales has launched an investigation into a Cardiff restaurant after seven people were confirmed to be suffering with food poisoning caused by the Campylobacter bacterium.
Those affected ate at the restaurant, which is currently closed, during the weekend of May 16th.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA), the Regulatory Service for Cardiff, the Vale and Bridgend Councils, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Public Health Wales are investigating the cause of the outbreak.
Dr Gwen Lowe, Consultant in Communicable Disease Control for Public Health Wales, said: “We are investigating those people who were unwell after eating at the restaurant to try to establish the cause of the outbreak, but any ongoing public health risk from this outbreak is very unlikely with the actions already undertaken.”
If you or a loved one has suffered food poisoning due to poor hygiene standards, our personal injury solicitors could help you claim compensation. Visit our Food Poisoning Compensation Claims page for more information.

Expert Opinion
Reports of a significant number of people being affected by food poisoning after eating at a restaurant in Cardiff is concerning.

“Campylobacter is the most common cause of food poisoning in the UK and is usually contracted from eating undercooked meat. In some cases it can have long-term consequences for those affected and we have seen first-hand the impact which it can have on the day-to-day lives of victims.

“It is now vital that a thorough investigation is carried out into practice at the restaurant, the cause of the outbreak and whether anything else could have been done to prevent the illness. Those affected by the illness will understandably be looking for answers about the cause and seeking reassurances that measures have been implemented to seek to prevent similar incidents occurring in the future.
