Expert Lawyers Say More Must Be Done To Recall The Faulty Appliances
Specialist Product Liability lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have voiced concerns at the recent research released by ITV that almost 650,000 faulty dishwashers manufactured by Bosch between 1999 and 2005 remain unaccounted for.
The appliances, marketed under two labels as Bosch FD7901 to FD8504 and Hotpoint with serial numbers between DWF3 and DC26, contain a fault in their control panel which causes them to overheat and ignite and this has led to hundreds of incidents of house fires in the UK.
David Body, a Partner and head of the Product Liability team at Irwin Mitchell, is currently representing one family whose home was gutted by a fire started by their Bosch dishwasher.
The 844,000 dishwashers in question were all manufactured by Bosch, although some were sold as Hotpoint, in the period 1999-2005. There have been 448 reported cases of house fires in the UK caused by these faulty dishwashers. Of the 844,000 machines manufactured some 648,682 remain unaccounted for.
Bosch did issue a product recall in July 2011 but Hotpoint did not tell their customers until November 2013. Fire services in Norfolk and Dorset have gone as far as to issue specific warnings about the machines because of the high risk that they pose.
