Irwin Mitchell Aims To Get A Handle On Britain's Cycling Know-how During 2014 Tour De France
As the country gears up for the expected boom in road-going cyclists due to the influence of the Tour de France's Grand Départ, one law firm is keen to ask all road users: just how much do we, as a nation, know about cycling safety.
Irwin Mitchell has launched the Great British Cycling Quiz ready for the start of the 2014 Tour de France, which kicks off for the first time ever in Yorkshire - where Irwin Mitchell has two offices. The Tour then leaves Yorkshire for the Cambridge to London stage, both cities where the firm also has an office. The route takes in over 300 miles of the finest British towns, cities and countryside before crossing back over the Channel.
Organisers of the Tour de France's three British stages, which leave the starting line on July 5th, have made painstaking efforts to ensure the streets are safe for competitors and supporters alike – though the all-too-real issue of cyclist safety on British roads remains. The Great British Cycling Quiz has been developed to find out just how much the British public knows about laws governing cycling on the road.
Irwin Mitchell, which has a great understanding of the impact that road injuries can have on cyclists and their families, aims to raise awareness amongst motorists and cyclists alike of some the safety issues and rules around cycling on the UK’s roads.
Using traffic regulations and the Highway Code, Irwin Mitchell has handpicked eight questions as part of its interactive quiz. Answers will be scored so that the British public will be able to find out just how much they really know about cycle safety.

As with any major sporting event in the UK, it's often the case that Britons will take a much bigger interest in similar activities themselves.
"There is a lot to be said for encouraging more people to cycle, for health, environmental and many other reasons. But it is important to be aware of the rules for safe cycling to reduce the risk of accidents, and even more important for other road users especially motorists and lorry drivers to have a better understanding of what issues cyclists face and what they should and should not do on the road.
