GMC Investigates Allegations Against West Hull Partner

The General Medical Council (GMC) is investigating allegations against a partner at the Newington Health Centre and Calvert Centre in Hull, it has been revealed.

Dr Eugene Stryjakiewicz has been suspended until the investigations have concluded but the GMC has so far been unable to say what allegations have been made against him, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

A statement on the GMC website said: "This person has been suspended from the medical register and may not practice as a doctor in the UK."

A relative of a patient at the surgery, who asked not to be named, said: "We don't know where or why he's gone."

"He was just there one minute and gone the next, but we don't know why. When we ask, staff just clam up and say they can't tell us anything. His name is still up on the signs at both practices."

Dr Stryjakiewicz has worked as a GP in Hull for more than 20 years, but could face a GMC hearing if the investigation raises any questions over his fitness to practice medicine.

He was one of the first GPs to be involved in a project to move surgeries from rundown premises into new health centres in 2002.

He was part of the £1.9m Newington Health Care Centre in Plane Street off Anlaby Road, the city's second GP premises to open under the Local Improvement Finance Trust (Lift) Project in 2006.

Before his suspension, Dr Stryjakiewicz was working alongside Dr Akhtar Tak and Dr Magdy Sadik at Newington and the Calvert Centre in Calvert Lane, west Hull.

NHS England and Hull Clinical Commissioning Group, representing both surgeries where Dr Stryjakiewicz worked, both declined to comment on the GP's suspension.
