Lawyers Attend Glitzy Industry Award Ceremony in Edinburgh

Lawyers and staff at Irwin Mitchell Scotland LLP have been rewarded for their fundraising efforts at the Scott and Co Scottish Legal Awards.

More than 20 companies, teams and individuals were shortlisted for 17 prestigious awards, which recognise excellence in the Scottish legal profession and fundraising activity for charities in the UK.

Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office won the award for Fundraising Firm of the Year at a glittering presentation dinner at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre after wowing judges with their dedication to local charities such as Yorkhill Children’s Foundation in Glasgow, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support and Child Bereavement UK.

The Glasgow team raised money for charities last year by taking part in a variety of events such as a 5K run, a cycle ride between Marie Curie centres in Glasgow and Newcastle, an Olympic-themed lunch, a Wii fitness challenge and a relay along the route of the Edinburgh Marathon.

Irwin Mitchell Scotland’s Managing Partner, Craig Marshall, said: “Fundraising for charities which are close to all our hearts is a big part of our social responsibility programme at Irwin Mitchell and the dress down days, bake sales, fun runs and challenges we’ve held to boost the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation is a great way for us to give something back to the community. 

“It has been a real team effort and we are absolutely thrilled to win the Fundraising Team of the Year award, which I’m sure will inspire us carry on our charity work in future.”

The Glasgow team were also ‘highly commended’ in the Litigation Team of the Year award category and paralegal Fraser Watson was also nominated for the Scottish Paralegal Association Paralegal of the Year accolade.

Craig added: “All three nominations reflect the hard work all of our staff put in every day for the most important people in our business, our clients, and it’s great to see our efforts recognised like this.”

The judging panel, chaired by Margo Macdonald, met in December last year at Hotel Missioni in Edinburgh to cast their votes.
