Police Considering Allegations Related To Beechwood And Others
By Rob Dixon
Nottinghamshire Police have revealed they are investigating more than 50 allegations of abuse in relation to the Beechwood Children’s Home in Mapperley, as well as claims related to other four homes in the local area.
Reports have revealed that 56 people have come forward in relation to the former Nottinghamshire County Council-run home, which closed in 2006, in the past two years since six people said they had been abused at the site.
Claims are also now under investigation in relation to Bracken House in Bulwell, Ranskill Gardens in Bestwood, Wood Nook in Beechdale and Risley Hall in Derbyshire. It is thought that allegations of the abuse date back around 30 years.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist abuse lawyers act for vulnerable people of all ages who have suffered severe psychological and physical trauma as a result of abuse in children’s homes.
Louise Jenkins, a Partner and expert in child abuse claims at Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office, said: “It is common to see more people with concerns over abuse come forward after an initial one or two allegations have been made public – which certainly appears to have been the case here.
“This is often due to people feeling encouraged and confident that their voices will be heard over problems they have faced in the past.
“It is hugely important that all allegations of abuse which have emerged in relation to these homes in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire are fully investigated, with as much information as possible gathered on the issues.
“As in any investigation, it is important that the facts are fully reviewed so that, where possible, lessons can be learned to ensure safeguarding is improved in the future.”
