Investigation Launched Into Incident In West Yorkshire

An investigation is underway after the owner of Casa hotel in Brighouse and four others suffered serious injuries when a balcony at the site collapsed this morning (February 15th).

Emergency services were called to the hotel just before noon, with owner Jack McDaid reportedly being airlifted to hospital with head injuries. Four women were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by road following the incident.

David Urpeth, a Partner and expert at Irwin Mitchell with expertise in helping victims seriously injured in falls from height, said it was vital that the investigation into the incident was carried out both quickly and thoroughly.

He outlined: “It is clear that very little is so far known about what happened in this case, so we would urge police and emergency services to work quickly to determine what caused the collapse and, most importantly, how the same problems can be avoided in the future.

“Through our work, we have seen the huge consequences that falls from height can have on victims, so it is hugely important for every effort to be made to improve safety in this regard.

“Patrons and staff at the hotel will be hugely concerned about what has happened, so it is vital that everything can be done to examine the circumstances of the collapse thoroughly and provide reassurances that the same issues can be prevented going forward.”
