Expert Calls For Answers Over Fatal Work Accident

Answers are needed over a farming accident over the weekend which led to the death of a 24-year-old man, a workplace injury expert at Irwin Mitchell has urged.

Reports have revealed that the Health and Safety Executive is now investigating the incident at a farm near Falmouth, Cornwall, in which it is believed the man was killed when a power cable became severed.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed they are working with the safety organisation to learn more about the fatal incident, which happened on Sunday (July 3rd).

Commenting on the news, David Urpeth, a Partner and workplace injury specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said it was vital lessons are learnt over the incident.

He outlined: “The farming industry is undoubtedly an area where workers can be exposed to risks if the correct safety measures and guidance have not been followed.

“It is vital that investigators thoroughly consider every aspect of this terrible incident and, more importantly, whether it could and should have been avoided.

“Incidents of this tragic nature tend to highlight just how devastating accidents at work can be and it is vital that every effort is made to ensure any mistakes which may have led to this incident can be prevented in the future.

“The safety of workers in all sectors needs to be a fundamental priority and terrible cases like this only serve to demonstrate why this should be the case.”
