Expert Calls For Thorough Investigation

An investigation into a plane crash off the southern coast of South Africa which claimed the lives of nine people must be completed as quickly and as thorough as possible, according to an aviation law expert at Irwin Mitchell.

Authorities in the country are now investigating the possible cause of the incident, which saw a Pilatus PC-12 corporate transport aircraft come down this Tuesday (February 8th) in the Robberg Nature Reserve area of Plettenberg Bay.

South African retailer Italtile has since confirmed that its chief executive officer Gian-Paolo Ravazotti was fatally injured in the crash, along with eight colleagues and business partners.

Irwin Mitchell’s Aviation Law team, which regularly provides advice and support to the families of those tragically killed in air crashes across the globe, has called on authorities to work quickly to determine the cause of the incident.

Jim Morris, a former RAF pilot and London-based aviation law expert at the firm, said: “Very few details have yet been confirmed in relation to this crash but, as with any incident of this kind, there are clear issues which need to resolved.

“The families of those killed in the incident will undoubtedly be seeking answers in relation to what happened, while any investigation should hopefully highlight whether any technical faults or issues with the aircraft could have played a part in crash.

“This should hopefully enable lessons to be learned which, in turn, will help ensure that the flight safety of single turbo-prop corporate transport aircraft is improved, so that no one else travelling in this type of aircraft suffers in the same terrible manner.”
