Riu Mambo, Riu Merengue and Riu Bachata group actions concerning outbreak of illness
Irwin Mitchell solicitors have been successful in settling a third group action against British Tour Operators who sent holidaymakers to the formidable Riu Mambo, Riu Merengue and Riu Bachata resort in Puerto Plata of the Dominican Republic.
Irwin Mitchell has represented over 150 travellers who holidayed at the Riu Resort following numerous outbreaks of illness between 2004 and 2006. The latest settlement was for a wedding couple who travelled to the Riu Merengue at the end of 2005 with First Choice.
The couple incurred severe diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal cramps just days into their conjoined wedding and honeymoon holiday and continue to suffer post-infective irritable bowel syndrome to date. Robert Newman who represented the couple confirmed that compensation had been agreed totalling more than £27,000.00. Despite this good news he was disappointed that the couple's family who travelled with them for the wedding were having to persist with their compensation claims against an alternate tour operator Thomsons.
Robert Newman said, "We have successfully represented a number of holidaymakers who suffered from similar symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal cramps whilst staying at the Riu Resort. These settlements have been against Thomas Cook and First Choice. However, we still have a further four large group actions against the tour operator TUI UK Ltd commonly known as Thomsons which are still unfortunately continuing."
