Irwin Mitchell’s relationship with Newlife
As an associate solicitor in the medical negligence team at Irwin Mitchell, I've built an excellent relationship with Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children over a number of years and I look forward to continuing to grow and develop this connection nationally.
Newlife is the biggest provider of equipment to disabled families in the UK. The charity was founded over 30 years ago with an aim to ensure that disabled and terminally ill children get the best possible start in life and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. It does this by providing families with equipment which otherwise they would be unable to source or afford. The type of equipment which Newlife provides to families are beds, buggies, wheelchairs, seating systems, and much more.
Another vital service which Newlife provides is a nurses helpline, assisting with the loaning of emergency equipment to families. Families are able to contact the nurses to discuss their circumstances and then they are able to get the equipment and grants to purchase specialist equipment through this service, which is very unique.
As well as the emergency equipment it loans to families, Newlife also understands the importance of enrichment and quality of life for disabled or terminally ill children. It provides specialist toys and also loans out play therapy pods. These not only help to make the children happy but provide families with a better understanding of the needs that their child has. Last year, Irwin Mitchell provided funds to help Newlife buy another play therapy pod for families in need.
At Irwin Mitchell, we support many families that have children with severe disabilities who often require the use of such vital equipment. We work with these families on a day-to-day basis and know and understand the benefits to children through the use of specialist equipment and how this can often contribute towards their rehabilitation.
Irwin Mitchell’s Support and Rehabilitation Coordinators are aware of the important work Newlife does and often help signpost families in need to its services.
