Irwin Mitchell is proud to support the CBI's Unlocking Regional Growth campaign.
The CBI is the UK's premier business organisation. It provides a voice for firms at a regional, national and international level to policymakers. Unlocking Regional Growth forms part of the CBI’s key purpose to help businesses create a more prosperous society.
The Report
The first major output of the initiative is an insightful report from the CBI’s policy experts that features a section authored by Irwin Mitchell.
The report focuses on the role of devolution and economic rebalancing, identifying key four drivers for improving productivity:
- Educational attainment of young people at 16
- Better transport links raise productivity by widening access to labour
- Better management practices can help address poor productivity across a range of sectors
- Exporting lifts regional productivity
If businesses and the government work together on these four drivers, the report predicts we could achieve a £67bn uplift in GVA. This is based on output growth in lower performing areas moving up to regional and national averages and complements the government’s ongoing Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine agendas.

The report was launched at an event at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry.
With offices and clients around the country, Irwin Mitchell is well aware of the potential for regional growth as a complementary strategy alongside continued prosperity in the South-East. We're thrilled to be supporting the CBI and the Unlocking Regional Growth campaign and will be working with them to push the four drivers for increased productivity.
