Our aspiration, in line with our purpose-led strategy and our core values, is to be recognised as a leading responsible business. To us, this means having a strong culture as well as a clear and ambitious strategy to address the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues which are material to our business. It also means recognising the power of impactful collaboration and developing trusted partnerships with our stakeholders.
This includes supporting our communities through colleague volunteering, pro bono work, charitable giving in partnership with the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, creating an inclusive workplace where all of our people are enabled to thrive, encouraging sustainable and ethical business relationships with our clients and suppliers while delivering against our environmental strategy and targets.
We are committed to measuring and reporting our progress and use a range of external benchmarking tools and metrics to monitor our performance. You can read about our progress in our latest Responsible Business Report below.
Our focus
In FY24, we engaged over 100 of our stakeholders, ranging from clients and suppliers to colleagues and our community partners, to identify the most significant ESG risks and opportunities for our business, through our double materiality assessment. This resulted in identification of four focus areas which reflect our responsible business ambitions and aspirations:
- Protecting our Planet – reducing the impact of climate change through education, responsible consumption and the provision of sustainable services
- Driving Inclusion and Wellbeing – improving wellbeing and diversity through our services, values-driven culture and sustainable and inclusive employment
- Empowering our Communities – reducing inequalities through education, employability, and by widening access to justice
- Building Organisational Resilience – developing healthy and resilient organisations through a focus on ethical, accountable, and inclusive governance.
Our commitment to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)
We are proud signatories of the UNGC and have committed to its 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and the framework provided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
While we recognise that we’re already making an impact against many of the SDGs, we have used the results of our materiality assessment to identify the goals most relevant to our business where we can collaborate with our stakeholders to make the greatest contribution towards. These are:
- Goal 3: Good health and wellbeing
- Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
- Goal 10: Reduced inequalities
- Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
- Goal 13: Climate action
- Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions.
