As part of our commitment to becoming a leading responsible business, we’re accelerating our plans to make our careers more inclusive and accessible to people with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
To hold ourselves accountable, we’re publicly pledging to achieve Level 3 of Disability Confident, the Government’s framework for employers, by May 2023.
Level 2 is about taking action to make our recruitment practices and our working environment disability inclusive. For Level 3, we’ll need to demonstrate our leadership on disability inclusion, encouraging others to become Disability Confident and reporting publicly on our progress.
Why we’re making this commitment
In 2019, we gained Disability Confident Level 1 and in 2022, we gained Disability Confident Level 2 after pledging to take action to recruit, retain and develop people with disabilities. We’re now making progress towards Level 3, but there’s still a long way to go before our workforce mirrors the communities we serve.
Some of the things we are doing to improve include:
- Launching ‘Lets talk about Disability’ sessions - this follows a successful series of discussions across the business about race. All colleagues will be invited and the Executive team have all pledged to attend
- Encouraging our clients and suppliers to sign up for the Disability Confident scheme
- Giving candidates the opportunity to opt into the Disability Confident Interview Scheme, more information on which can be found on our guidance for applicants page
- Developing improved guidance for managers on recruitment processes and practices that are inclusive and accessible as well as guidance on reasonable adjustments
- We’ve also recently launched our Flexible by Choice ways of working which help with inclusivity and accessibility by letting colleagues choose where and when they work best subject to clients’ needs.
The Human Touch Campaign
In September 2021, we launched our new campaign The Human Touch which features real clients sharing personal stories of how we have helped them. In producing, we took an inclusive approach to producing this campaign that will change public perceptions within the broadcast industry.
As well as using real clients, not actors, we’ve assembled a behind-the-camera team made up of people who are often overlooked: those with disabilities both hidden and visible. It's about giving opportunities to talented individuals who don’t always receive the opportunities they deserve. We also produced a film showing the making of the campaign featuring Rankin and the inclusive production team.

In Summary
Our new Responsible Business strategy was launched in May 2021, with a focus on inclusion and an overarching goal of enabling everyone to thrive. It’s prompted us to reflect further on how disability inclusive we are as an organisation, our employment opportunities for people with disabilities and their representation in our workforce.
We recognise there’s more for us to do and we’re committed to taking action.
