Biography
I am a Legal Executive in our market leading International Serious Injury team based in Birmingham. I have over 25 years of experience in pursuing both individual and group action claims both as a Claimant and Defendant lawyer. My work has largely focused on litigation arising out of the travel industry and the liability of tour operators and travel service providers to consumers for breach of contract.
My workload has included catastrophic orthopedic and gastric illness claims, many of these cases have been of high value and complexity, involving foreign standards, law, and jurisdiction. I have worked for some of the biggest names in travel, including MyTravel, Airtours, Thomas Cook and First Choice, but I decided to change sides in 2009.
I have expertise in prosecuting large class actions against UK tour operators and have handled claims involving outbreaks of illness at many foreign hotels.
As well as being a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, I also hold a degree in Electronic Computer Systems Engineering. This earlier training developed my eye for detail and a systemic and often methodical approach to group litigation which is often needed to be successful.
I have frequently appeared in the press and have been quoted in various national newspapers. Several of my successful cases have been reported in leading travel practitioner law books, such as Saggerson on Travel Law and Litigation.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
Irwin Mitchell is the market leader in personal injury claims, and I am proud to work for such a long standing and established law firm. As a firm, we collectively, care for our clients whilst seeking the best solutions to their problems whether this is winning compensation, rehabilitation and/or financial support post-settlement.
I also like the fact that my colleagues are supportive and offer opinions and help when needed – it’s a real team effort from inception to conclusion.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Working for the most prestigious and respected law firm in the country and achieving excellent results for its clients.
What inspired you to get into law?
Success, I have always liked winning. In the early days identifying claims that had no merit was rewarding and I was encouraged to complete my ILEX examinations. My inspiration now comes from helping sick and injured holidaymakers get back on their feet, often changing their lives in the process.
What do you do away from the office?
In my downtime I like watching sport whether this is a member of my family playing football or my local team. I also enjoy meals out and drinks, comedy clubs, and socializing with friends at the weekend.
