Biography
I am a Law Costs Draftsman with over 20 years' experience. I commenced my career in costs in October 2001 and worked for an independent Law Costs Drafting firm before joining Irwin Mitchell in May 2019.
I have considerable experience in all aspects of costs law to include drafting Bills of Costs, Points of Dispute and Replies to Points of Dispute. I also undertake costs negotiations and progress matters to both Provisional and Detailed Assessment where necessary. I maintain a varied caseload but have considerable experience in dealing with high quantum personal injury cases including international travel, serious injury and clinical negligence claims.
I am currently undertaking the Costs Lawyer course and hope to qualify as a Costs Lawyer next year.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I enjoy having a varied caseload and working as part of an inclusive and friendly team where everyone feels that they are able to share and discuss ideas.
I also enjoy being able to work flexibly and maintain a work/life balance. At Irwin Mitchell we are provided with various opportunities to develop our knowledge and progress our career and are actively encouraged to do so. Equally, the firm is committed to promoting colleague wellbeing and ensuring that the needs of the colleague are balanced with the needs of the business.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Achieving the best results for my clients (both internal and external) and building good professional relationships.
What inspired you to get into law?
My father was a Police Officer and so from a very young age, I became interested in the law and legal issues and the concept of 'justice'. As I was growing up my interest in the law continued to develop and I was always fascinated by the various legal debates on complex ethical, philosophical, and moral problems arising out of legal cases. In view of my enthusiasm for the subject, I went onto study law at university, with the intention of establishing a career within the legal sector.
What do you do away from the office?
I enjoy spending time with my family (I have two teenage sons) and travelling to my favourite place (Cyprus) during the holidays. I also enjoy watching football (I am an Aston Villa supporter) and so most weekends I can be found watching the Villa or watching my youngest son play for a local team.
