Biography
I took a slightly unusual route into the legal profession, by first completing a degree in Veterinary Science at the Royal Veterinary College, London. I then realized law (and specifically medical negligence) was my passion and started working in this area from 2010, and then qualified as a solicitor in 2015.
I have experience in a wide variety of medical negligence cases, but have a special interest in obstetrics and gynaecology. This includes complex deliveries, stillbirths, ectopic pregnancies, and retained products of conception.
What inspired you to get into law?
I really enjoyed the research aspect of my first degree and wanted to pursue a legal career where I could make use of the medical knowledge I’d gained. Medical negligence has always been my passion and the area that I worked in when I first started in the legal profession.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Too often clients feel that their concerns have been ignored and they lack full and frank disclosure about what has happened to them. Often people just need answers to allow them to move past a negative experience.
Being able to provide clients with those answers allows them to move on and gain closure. I think this is invaluable, whether or not it supports the case going forward. However, when we do get compensation for our clients, it’s so rewarding seeing how far this goes to help them move forward with their lives.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I like that I’m one of a large team of experts in medical negligence with a wealth of knowledge and passion for what we do.
What do you do away from the office?
Out of the office I enjoy running (including parkrun at 9am on a Saturday – madness!), playing badminton, and walking my rescue greyhound, Winston.
